Dependent Care Grants

The financial burden of child and adult dependent care affects the Society’s members. The impact can be so great that it often prevents attendance at meetings, especially for early career scientists or those at small institutions with limited funding. The AAS and its Divisions are committed to helping members with dependents attend meetings; therefore, members may apply for subsidized dependent care services during a meeting, for use either at the meeting location or at home. Deadline: 21 November

KiddieCorp is pleased to provide a children’s program during the winter meeting. KiddieCorp is in its forty-first year of providing high-quality children’s programs and youth services to conventions, trade shows, and special events. We take caring for your children very seriously. KiddieCorp has enjoyed a long-time partnership with the American Academy of Pediatrics, which has helped to establish KiddieCorp as a premier provider of event children’s program services.

FAMOUS Travel Grants

The American Astronomical Society is offering opportunities for AAS members to secure funding to travel to a Society meeting in order to increase the number of astronomers from groups that are underrepresented in the field.

FAMOUS grants will be awarded at a level of up to $1,000 to attend a single AAS meeting, at which the awardee will present their research. While all members are welcome to apply, priority for the limited funds will be given to members of historically underrepresented groups, such as scientists at small colleges, minorities, non-traditional students, and veterans, among others. The funding will not cover the meeting registration fee but is intended to offset expenses for travel, meals, and lodging. Recipients of FAMOUS grants may not apply again until three years have passed. Deadline: 17 November

Rodger Doxsey Travel Prize

The Rodger Doxsey Travel Prize provides graduate students or postdocs within one year of receiving or receipt of their PhD a monetary prize to enable the oral presentation of their dissertation research at a winter meeting of the AAS. Awardees receive a small travel stipend and a waiver of their registration fee or, in the case of honorable mention, a waiver of their registration fee only.

Before completing this form you should have already submitted your dissertation abstract for the upcoming January AAS meeting and indicated that you want it judged in the Doxsey prize competition. Deadline: 6 October
