FAMOUS Travel Grants

The American Astronomical Society is offering opportunities for AAS members to secure funding to travel to a Society meeting in order to increase the number of astronomers from historically underrepresented groups.

The initiative is called the FAMOUS (Funds for Astronomical Meetings: Outreach to Underrepresented Scientists) Travel Grants Program. FAMOUS grants are awarded at a level of up to $279.00 to attend a single AAS meeting, at which the awardee will present her or his research. Priority will be given to members of historically underrepresented groups, such as scientists at small colleges, minorities, non-traditional students, and veterans, among others. For the January 2021 meeting, a FAMOUS grant award will be used to cover the registration fee. Recipients of FAMOUS grants may not apply again until three years have passed.

Please submit your abstracts regardless of funding. AAS understands that social distancing efforts to contain COVID-19 may impact future meetings and will take this into consideration when reviewing applications. Anyone who applies for the FAMOUS grant will also be guaranteed the early-bird registration fee.

The 2021 FAMOUS Travel Grant Proposal opened 12 October 2020 (12:00 am EST) and closed 20 November 2020 (11:59 pm EST).
