Applications for the 2018 Robert L. Brown Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award are now being accepted from recent PhD recipients whose doctoral thesis is based on data from an AUI facility. Deadline: 31 December.

The International Astronomical Union has announced the recipients of the first annual IAU PhD Prize, which recognizes outstanding scientific achievements in astronomy by PhD students around the world.

The 2017 prize recognizes Sandy Faber for a body of work that has helped establish many of the foundational principles underlying our understanding of the universe on the largest scales.

On 2 May the Academy announced the election of 84 new members and 21 foreign associates, including several AAS members and others working in the astronomical sciences.

The Astrophysics Committee of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics invites nominations for the 2016 and 2017 Young Scientist Prizes. Nominations must be submitted by 15 June.

Nominations for the 2018 Breakthrough Prizes in Fundamental Physics, Life Sciences, and Mathematics can be submitted online through 31 May 2017.

Shrinivas Kulkarni, Andrzej Udalski, and the late Neil Gehrels will share the $1 million 2017 international Dan David Prize for their exploration of the variable night sky.

The Astronomical Society of the Pacific is accepting nominations for its 2017 awards recognizing achievements in astronomy research, technology, education, and public outreach. Deadline: 1 March.

Five astrophysicists involved in the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory will be awarded in recognition of their extraordinary scientific achievements.

Recent PhD recipients from US institutions are invited to apply for this award, administered by Associated Universities, Inc. and the National Radio Astronomy Observatory. Application deadline: 31 December 2016.
