AAS Winter Meeting Early Registration Deadline Approaching

Join your colleagues at the 231st AAS meeting 8-12 January 2018 in Washington, DC. A stellar program of speakers and events is coming together and you don’t want to miss it! (Note that the 2018 AAS winter meeting will take place Monday-Friday instead of the usual Sunday-Thursday.)

AAS 231

Registration
Meeting registration is open! Register by Wednesday, 27 September — and make sure your membership is current — to receive the lowest rates. Find all of the details on the Registration page, and make sure to look at the workshops and events, too — some of them require advance registration.

Abstracts
Submit your abstract for an oral or poster presentation in one of over 50 topical categories by 9:00 pm ET on 3 October to join the meeting program. If you miss that deadline, you can submit a poster abstract through the late deadline of 5 December. Details are available on the Abstract Information page.

Like the last summer meeting in Austin, AAS 231 will include iPosters. Consider presenting an iPoster instead of a traditional poster for the option to include high-res images, videos, narration, and more.

Lodging
The AAS has reserved a block of rooms for meeting attendees at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center. Book your hotel room by 13 December to ensure the group rate. Find the rates and details on the Travel & Lodging page. If you’re looking for a roommate to share the lodging expenses at the meeting, take advantage of the Roommate Search Forum to find a match.

Travel and Dependent Care Grants
AAS members presenting their research at the winter meeting are invited to apply for a FAMOUS Travel Grant. Priority will be given to members of historically underrepresented groups, such as scientists at small colleges, minorities, non-traditional students, and veterans, among others. The funding is intended to offset expenses for travel, meals, and lodging. FAMOUS Travel Grant applications are due 5 October.

The AAS does not want the financial burden of child or dependent care to impact members’ ability to attend meetings, especially early career scientists or those at small institutions with limited funding. To help, members may apply for a grant to subsidize dependent care services during a meeting, for use either at the meeting location or at home. Dependent Care Grant applications are due 1 December.

Exhibitors
The winter meeting Exhibit Hall fills up very quickly, so reserve your booth soon! The early deadline is 27 September, and you can find all of the details on the Exhibitors & Sponsors page.

Student Orientation & Grad School Fair
Is your institution recruiting students for your graduate school, REU programs, or internships? Then you will want to reserve your spot at the Student Orientation Reception and Grad School Fair being held on Monday, 8 January, from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. Your sponsorship will include a spot at the reception with a skirted table and poster board to advertise your program to over 400 interested students. Continue engaging students during the week at the Student Pavilion located in the Exhibit Hall. Sign up to sponsor this event today.
