HEAD 19 Meeting
There has been enormous progress in our field since our last face-to-face meeting in Sun Valley in March, 2019: the launch of SRG and the completion of the initial all-sky X-ray surveys from eROSITA and ART-XC, precise constraints on the neutron star equation of state by high precision X-ray timing with NICER and gravitational wave observations with LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA, and the release of the 2020 Decadal, pointing the path to future advances in our understanding of the high-energy Universe.
The 19th Divisional meeting will take place at the William Penn Omni, 13-17 March 2022, in Pittsburgh, PA. The Omni is a beautiful historic (and supposedly haunted) hotel which, since 1916, "played a starring role in the city of Pittsburgh, hosting movie stars, politicians, heads of state and leaders of business".
We look forward to seeing everyone in Pittsburgh!
HEAD 19 & COVID-19
Society leaders and staff are monitoring the ongoing pandemic as well as both national and local public health guidance for large gatherings. The AAS encourages everyone to stay informed about safety measures for travel and gatherings as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). For current information on Pittsburgh, visit https://www.visitpittsburgh.com/plan-your-trip/travel-safely/.
The Board of Trustees has decided to require full COVID-19 vaccination for all HEAD 19 on-site attendees, staff, and support contractors without exception. All on-site meeting participants will be required to submit proof of full vaccination prior to registration, through a secure, third-party system. Note that your privacy is protected: the AAS does not see anything that you submit through this system.
In addition, we will be following all CDC guidelines for meetings and conferences, which currently include mask-wearing for vaccinated people in large gatherings indoors. Local staff supporting our meeting at the conference venue will also be uniformly masked.
Make plans to discover all you can see, do and find Only in Pittsburgh! Discover The Andy Warhol Museum, take a ride on the Duquesne and Monongahela Inclines, visit the August Wilson African American Cultural Center, the National Aviary, the Roberto Clemente Museum – this list goes on!
