AAS Summer Meeting Abstract Deadline Quickly Approaching!

Astronomers will be taking over Austin, Texas, 4-8 June for the 230th AAS meeting. If you want to be a part of it and share your work with your colleagues from around the country, submit your oral presentation or poster abstract in one of over 50 topical categories by Thursday, 2 March, at 9:00 pm ET. If you don't think you'll be ready by 2 March, the late abstract deadline is 19 April. Only poster abstracts may be submitted after 2 March and those posters will be displayed on Thursday, 8 June.

The 2017 summer meeting will include plenary speakers presenting on a wide range of topics, including dark matter, space weather, galaxy evolution, submillimeter galaxies, the search for "Planet Nine," astronomy education, and more. In addition to the stellar plenary speakers, sessions, and events, this year's summer meeting will include some very exciting Meetings-in-a-Meeting (MiM) and Special Sessions. Are you eagerly awaiting the launch of the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST)? Feed your anticipation by attending a MiM that will focus on the projects that already have guaranteed time on JWST. If you’re interested in the origins of exoplanets orbiting within 1 AU of their host stars, check out the panel-based sessions of the Inner Solar Systems MiM. A Special Session on astrostatistics, exploring the intersection of observational astronomy, statistics, and data science, is also planned for the summer meeting. The Laboratory Astrophysics Division (LAD) will hold its annual meeting in conjunction with AAS 230 and has planned both oral and poster sessions on "Bridging Laboratory and Astrophysics." Topics will range from ices in the solar system to plasmas in active galactic nuclei.

So what are you waiting for? Submit your abstract today!

Want to help ensure all of the abstracts in your field make it into the appropriate oral or poster session? We are seeking members to help create the contributed science sessions at the summer meeting. Sorters are able to complete the process from their own computer and on their own time and training will be completed via a short web video. Sorting will start on 13 March and must be completed by 21 March. If you are interested, please email Kathy Cox with the scientific categories that fit your expertise.
