A Successful STARtorialist Booth at the AAS Winter Meeting

For the first time in 10 years, there was a fashion vendor booth at the AAS winter meeting! We launched the STARtorialist astronomy fashion blog in December 2013 to celebrate and highlight science and astronomy related fashion, decor, and more. Having presented AAS posters on using the blog as an informal outreach tool in 2015 and 2016, we were invited to expand our presence at the 229th AAS meeting in the form of a booth in the exhibition hall.

We had 15 different vendors sponsor the booth, allowing us to showcase a variety of products from plush planets to jewelry to clothing, all inspired by our continuing studies of the universe through math and science. Notably, all 15 vendors are small businesses run by women or families. While there was no actual selling of merchandise this year, almost all the vendors offered (and are still offering) discounts for meeting attendees ranging from 10-20% with the code AAS229.

We encourage you to support both STARtorialist and our vendors by taking advantage of these discounts! Many codes have been extended through January 31st. The more you buy from our winter meeting vendors, the more likely we will be able to expand the booth next year, including on site sales!

The vendors featured in this year’s booth are:

We’d like to thank everyone who stopped by, supported us, helped make it happen, especially Kelle Cruz of ScienceBetter. And thanks to all of our stellar volunteers: Vanshree Bhalotia, Colleen Cleary, Victoria DiTomasso, Stephanie Douglas, Marina Dunn, Jaquelin Erazo, Haley Fica, Paige Godfrey, Karen Knierman, Rachael Livermore, Rebecca McElroy, Ashley Pagnotta, Teresa Panurach, Nicole Cabrera Salazar, Jeanine Shea, and Jennifer Weston.
