Diane Frendak American Astronomical Society (AAS)

March for Science…Women in Astronomy IV…Great American Eclipse...Cassini…. It’s been a busy year for astronomers — and it isn’t over yet! During the final quarter of 2017, the American Astronomical Society will be overhauling its governance structure following the adoption of new Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws. A remarkable 90% of members casting ballots approved the governance changes, which will help our volunteer leaders guide the Society more effectively and enable the AAS to better serve our members and support our community. We’re looking forward to a great 2018 and invite you to renew your membership.

Act now! Don’t let these time-sensitive opportunities pass you by:

  • Renew now to secure your member discount for our 2018 meetings, then get ready to prepare your talk. Abstracts for the upcoming winter meeting in Washington, DC, are due on 3 October.
  • Renew now and you can lock in savings for 2019 by renewing for two years at the current rate. (Note: First-time junior member dues are $84 for the first two consecutive years; subsequent junior member dues cannot be locked in. Subscriptions to AAS journals must be renewed annually).
  • Renew before 31 December 2017 to get a one-time 15% discount on your share of the author charges for one paper published in the Astronomical Journal or the Astrophysical Journal family in 2018. Eligible members can double their savings: if you renew by 31 December for two years, you will receive the 15% discount on two papers, one each in 2018 and 2019.

As you renew this year, we ask that you read and agree to abide by the Society’s Code of Ethics and Anti-Harassment Policy for AAS and Division meetings and activities. By committing to these guidelines and best practices for professional behavior we, as a Society, can more effectively advance the astronomical sciences and fulfill our mission to enhance and share humanity’s scientific understanding of the universe.

If you have any questions about your dues or benefits, or need assistance when logging in, please contact the membership team by email or by phone at 202-328-2010. Need an invoice? We will be mailing paper reminders and invoices over the next two weeks.

Thank you for your continued membership in the American Astronomical Society!
