Post-doctoral Fellow in Astrophysics/Astronomy (2 posts) in the Department of Physics (Ref.: 499110)

Applications are invited for appointment as Post-doctoral Fellow in Astrophysics / Astronomy (2 posts) in the Department of Physics (Ref.: 499110), to commence in the summer or fall of 2020 for up to three years, subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree or be expected to complete a Ph.D. degree before fall 2020 in Physics, Astronomy or a related area.  They should have interests in areas broadly related to black hole accretion and transients.  The appointees will join the group of Professor Jane Lixin Dai to carry out original research in theoretical and computational astrophysics on topics including (but not limited to) tidal disruption events, black hole accretion disks and jets, X-ray reverberation, GR ray-tracing, AGN outflow and feedback. They can also spend up to 50% of their time on independent projects, or collaborate with the large group of astronomers and astrophysicists working on black holes and pulsars, galaxies, dark matter, star formation, supernova remnant, planets, X-ray and radio astronomy, etc., at the University of Hong Kong.  Enquiries about the posts should be sent to Professor Jane Dai at [email protected].

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.
