Sign Up for Virtual Volunteering with K-12 Classrooms

Posted on behalf of Nepris.

NeprisAre you interested in an easy way to inspire the next generation of astronomers? Nepris is a cloud-based platform that connects K-12 classrooms to industry professionals virtually in order to support equity of access to career opportunities and encourage real world relevance for learning. You can engage with students right from your location!

How it Works

Nepris' platform works in two ways. First, K-12 teachers can create requests for virtual sessions with professionals about a topic their class is currently studying, and then Nepris will notify potential presenters about those opportunities. Past teacher-requested sessions about astronomy have included how planets are identified, an overview of the International Space Station, and more.

Second, for those of you who want to be more proactive, you can sign up to offer an "Industry Chat" about a topic in your field and then Nepris will market it to teachers all across the country so they can participate in your session. Some examples of previous Industry Chat topics include remote sensing and the colonization of Mars.

For both types of sessions, Nepris will handle all logistics and communication. All you need is access to a webcam and high speed internet, as well as any pictures, slides, etc. you’d like to use during these live, virtual sessions with students.

How to Sign Up

Go to nepris.com and follow a few quick steps to create a profile as an Industry Professional. Since Nepris creates matches based on industry and skills, please be sure to include the AAS and astronomy (along with any other talents) in the information you provide.
