Travel Grants Available for ASP Meeting on 2017 Solar Eclipse

Richard Fienberg

Richard Fienberg AAS Solar Eclipse Task Force

The AAS, through its Solar Eclipse Task Force, is offering a limited number of travel grants to attend the 128th annual meeting of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific (ASP), "Engage Every Child in the 2017 Solar Eclipse: Working Together with Diverse and Underserved Communities Across America," 8-9 December 2016, Moonrise Hotel, St. Louis, Missouri. These grants are intended for national science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) leaders working in or with underserved communities who are interested in engaging youth in education and outreach programs related to the 21 August 2017 solar eclipse across America. This program is funded by the US National Science Foundation. Accordingly, grants may go only to recipients within the United States.

Grants will cover the meeting registration fee, economy-class travel expenses, and lodging — but not meals, snacks, or other expenses.

To apply for a travel grant, please fill out the application form by 5:00 pm Eastern time on Friday, 21 October 2016. In the section labeled "Justification for Support," clearly describe your financial needs and how your attendance at the ASP meeting will help ensure broad participation in the 21 August 2017 solar eclipse, especially among diverse and underserved communities off the eclipse's path of totality.

Proposals will be evaluated by a committee of the AAS Solar Eclipse Task Force, and decisions will be made by Friday, 4 November, in plenty of time to make travel arrangements for the meeting in St. Louis.
