LIGO and Virgo Call for Electromagnetic Follow-up of Gravitational-Wave Candidates

Gabriela González Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge

The U.S.-based Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) Scientific Collaboration and the Europe-based Virgo Collaboration wish to enable multimessenger observations of astrophysical events by gravitational-wave detectors along with a wide range of telescopes and instruments of mainstream astronomy. Accordingly, the two projects have jointly issued an open call for professional astronomers interested in signing agreements for the identification of electromagnetic counterparts to gravitational-wave triggers found in the next science runs of the LIGO and Virgo Advanced detectors, which will start in 2015.

Find details on how to submit your application for this program on the LIGO Scientific Collaboration web page. Applications should be submitted before 16 February 2014.
