STEM Cohort Program for First-Generation/Low-Income Undergrads

Christopher Lam
University of Florida

The Alliance for the Low-Income and First-Generation Narrative (AL1GN), a student-centered conference series and coalition dedicated to empowering and connecting first-generation and low-income (FGLI) students, will soon be providing a STEM cohort program for FGLI undergraduate students. The program will target juniors and seniors, and it will begin next school year.

Participants will have access to monthly professional development workshops facilitated by people from industry and academia, as well as biweekly team sessions in which facilitators and participants work together on current sticking points in participants' research, school work, side projects, and more.

The goal of this program is to build community and STEM identity among cohort participants and to encourage continuance to STEM careers after graduation.

College juniors and seniors looking to connect with other STEM-focused students for professional development and community building are encouraged to apply by 15 May: https://tinyurl.com/al1gnstemcohort.
