Call for Fellows: Data Science Education Community of Practice Program

Karen Masters Haverford College

American Physical Society logoData Science Education Community of Practice (DSECOP), a program funded by the Innovation Fund at the American Physical Society (APS) and led by the APS Group on Data Science, seeks to support physics educators in integrating data science in their courses in multiple ways:

  • A Slack community of physics educators and industry professionals to discuss data science education in physics courses. Specifically, the conversation will be around challenges, opportunities, and cutting-edge skills necessary for a wide range of jobs.
  • A workshop to promote shared understanding and solidify the community.
  • DSECOP Fellows, a group of early-career physicists (graduate students and postdocs) who receive modest stipends to develop and test data science education materials.

If you are a postdoc or a graduate student and are interested in becoming a DSECOP fellow, submit your application by 30 January. As a DSECOP fellow, you will be working in a community to integrate AI/ML into the physics curricula. More information can be found on the application form.

Contact PIs: William Ratcliff (National Institute of Standards and Technology and the University of Maryland), Marilina Longobardi (University of Basel, Switzerland), Wolfgang Losert (University of Maryland), and Alexis Knaub (American Association of Physics Teachers), for more information at [email protected].

Not a graduate student or postdoc but interested? Stay tuned as the DSECOP program is just getting started!
