Call for Proposals for the NASA IRTF

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and its global impact, the 2020B IRTF proposal deadline has been extended to Thursday, April 9. The IRTF form and website are in the process of being updated to reflect the new dates. Please contact John Rayner or Bobby Bus if you have any questions or concerns.

NASA's 3-meter Infrared Telescope Facility

The due date for proposals to use NASA's 3-meter Infrared Telescope Facility (IRTF) on Maunakea for the 2020B semester (1 August 2020 to 31 January 31 2021) is Thursday, 9 April. An online form is available for proposal submission until 5:00 pm HST on 9 April 2020.

Available facility instruments include the following:

  1. SpeX, a 1- to 5-micron cross-dispersed medium-resolution spectrograph (up to R = 2,500) and imager;
  2. MORIS, a 512 x 512 pixel Andor CCD camera (60" x 60" field of view) mounted at the side-facing window of the SpeX cryostat that can be used simultaneously with SpeX;
  3. iSHELL, a 1.1– to 5.3-micron cross-dispersed echelle spectrograph (up to R = 70,000) and imager; and
  4. MIRSI/MOC, a 5– to 20-micron camera and grism spectrograph as shared risk
