AAS Database Upgrade and Website Interruption

Diane Frendak

Diane Frendak American Astronomical Society (AAS)

The AAS will be upgrading its membership database system on Thursday and Friday, 15-16 August. During the upgrade, sections of the website related to winter-meeting abstract submissions, splinter session proposal submissions, charitable donations, and member profiles will be inaccessible. Items that used to be online at members.aas.org will move to a new URL — my.aas.org/services — when the upgrade is complete.

Specifics

Timing: The upgrade will begin at 12 noon ET on Thursday, 15 August. We expect the donation and membership pages to be restored by Monday, 19 August, at the latest. The abstract system will be back online by Wednesday, 21 August.

Actions affected: membership renewal; donations; submitting AAS 235 abstracts and splinter meeting proposals; viewing and updating your member profile and communications preferences; searching the online membership directory.

New Looks and Functionality

When you log in to renew your membership for 2020 or register for the 235th AAS meeting in Hawaii, things will look a bit different. That's because we're also working on a full website redesign to launch in September.

Why the upgrade? New features and enhancements will improve the member/customer experience, including meeting pricing by groups, enhanced event confirmations, tribute notifications for donors, and even more changes behind the scenes for AAS staff.

We apologize in advance for any inconvenience to you during the downtime, and we are sure the final result will be welcomed by all. As always, if you have questions or concerns, please contact the AAS Membership Team.
