AAS 230 Attendees: Be a Part of History!

Jarita Holbrook University of Edinburgh

The AAS Oral History Project seeks people to interview during the 230th AAS meeting in Austin, Texas. The project digitally records 1.5- to 2-hour interviews with our members, which are then transcribed, edited, and placed in the AIP Oral History Archive. The interview covers your background, education, scientific achievements, life-work balance, career moves, and career challenges. To end each interview, we like to include your advice to the next generation of astrophysicists. Additionally, we are interested in opinions on the physics GRE, the move to remote observing, astroinformatics, and education related issues.

Because of the Women in Astronomy IV (WiA IV) meeting also taking place in Austin, we hope to attract more women to be interviewed, but all are welcome to sign up. These interviews are an important historical resource capturing the lived experiences of astronomers today, and they convey important information about how to become an astronomer, how to craft a career in astronomy, and what the current measures of success are in the field. If you are attending the summer meeting and/or WiA IV, please consider being interviewed for this project. We will be conducting only 24 interviews, so sign up today.
