Two Successful AAS Regional Meetings
Crystal Tinch American Astronomical Society (AAS)
The AAS seeks to achieve its mission to enhance and share humanity’s scientific understanding of the universe via a variety of activities, including organizing meetings. However, it is inefficient for the AAS staff to organize small gatherings at the regional level. At the 224th AAS meeting in Boston, a new effort was proposed — AAS Regional Meetings. The AAS endorses regional meetings that meet a few simple rules designed to support and foster diverse astronomical discourse. Two such meetings were held in April:
The MidAmerican Regional Astrophysics Conference (MARAC) was held 7-8 April 2017 at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. | |
The 2017 Kentucky Area Meeting was held 8 April at Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky. |
Both regional meetings welcomed attendees involved in teaching and/or research in astronomy, astrophysics, or space science. For more information on each meeting, visit their respective websites linked above.
