AASTCS 5 Regular Registration and Hotel Deadlines Almost Here!

The next meeting in the AAS Topical Conference Series (AASTCS) is on Radio Exploration of Planetary Habitability and will take place 7-12 May 2017 in Palm Springs, California. Hurry up and register because the regular registration deadline is next Monday, 27 March! Register by that deadline to save over late or onsite rates.

This AASTCS meeting represents an exciting area of key research efforts in astronomy's ongoing quest to answer one of the most exciting questions of our era: Can life as we know it exist on other planets around other stars? This meeting has grown out of the need to better understand star-planet interaction and its impact on habitability of planetary companions, especially those in close orbits around low-mass stars.

Through the utilization of astronomical observations in the radio portion of the electromagnetic spectrum, much can be learned about stellar activity and planetary habitability, new methods of planet detection, and planetary magnetic fields and theoretical predictions that can be tested and explored via radio astronomy. Emphasis will be placed on the potential impact of radio astronomy, especially the existing and planned large radio telescopes, in this area of research. This conference promises to be a fruitful week of collaborative discussion and dialogue on these topics and the already confirmed speakers promise an engaging and lively scientific program, including:
  • Adam Burgasser – "Radio Cycles in the Lowest Mass Stars"
  • Manuel Guedel – "Exoplanetary Habitability: Radiation, Particles, Plasmas, and Magnetic Fields"
  • Moira Jardine – "Exoplanet Environments and Radio Signatures"
  • Jeffrey Linsky – "What Can TRAPPIST-1 Tell Us About Radiation from M-Dwarf Chromospheres and Coronae"
  • Evgenya Shkolnik – "A Review and Preview of Magnetic Star-Planet Interactions"

All interested astronomers should attend this important conference… don’t get left behind! Come to Palm Springs this May to play a key part of this fascinating research effort.

AASTCS 5

REGISTRATION: The regular registration deadline for AASTCS 5 is Monday, 27. Register by that deadline to save $75 over onsite rates!

HOTELS: Reserve your room at the Miramonte Resort & Spa by 5 April to ensure you receive the group rate.

The AAS Topical Conference Series strives to organize conferences on cutting-edge scientific questions. A complementary conference that will be included in the Topical Conference Series in the future, Extreme Solar Systems (which the AAS logistically managed in 2015 and 2011), draws hundreds of researchers working on all areas of exoplanet research.

See you in Palm Springs!
