New Gold Open Access Option for AAS Journals

Julie Steffen American Astronomical Society (AAS)

In response to author requests and funding-agency requirements, scientists who publish in the AAS journals — the Astronomical Journal and/or the Astrophysical Journal family — have a new payment option called Gold Open Access. This option can be selected at the time of manuscript submission.

AAS Journals

The AAS journals are generally considered Green Open Access, meaning that all articles are permanently freely available after 12 months (until then, they are available only to institutional and individual subscribers). A paper published under the Gold Open Access option is immediately available to anyone with internet access. The AAS still holds copyright for Gold Open Access articles but publishes them under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY) license.

For more information on this new payment option and Gold Open Access author rates, please visit the AAS journals webpage.
