Two Decades at the Center of the Universe
Crystal Tinch American Astronomical Society (AAS)
The Astronomical Society of the Pacific (ASP) publishes a monthly online column written by "insiders" from the worlds of astronomy research and outreach. Called Astronomy Beat, it's available exclusively as a benefit of membership in the ASP.
For the April 2014 Astronomy Beat, the ASP asked AAS Press Officer Rick Fienberg to write about the 20-plus years he spent at Sky & Telescope, including his stints as editor in chief (2000-2008) and president of the magazine's parent company (1991-2000). For those AAS members who may not also belong to the ASP, our sister society has graciously allowed us to post a PDF of Rick's Astronomy Beat article here on the AAS website.
If you'd like to learn how a fortuitous pizza lunch led one astronomer to change careers from research to science writing, read "Two Decades at the Center of the Universe" via the link to Astronomy Beat #122 below.
