Job Description

Physical Review D (PRD) is looking for a part-time Associate Editor with international scientific standing in any of the subject areas that PRD covers, namely elementary particle physics, field theory, gravitation, cosmology, and astrophysics. As a member of our editorial team, you would actively engage with one of these research communities and ensure an outstanding peer review experience and thoughtful selection of papers for publication.

The primary responsibility of the Associate Editor is to critically conduct the peer review process of assigned manuscripts by determining whether to send a manuscript out for external review, selecting appropriate reviewers, and making decisions on rejection or acceptance. The Associate Editor is expected to strengthen and expand existing ties between the journal and the respective research communities, and to raise the journal’s overall visibility, through various activities, including conference attendance.

We receive submissions continuously throughout the year, and so we expect editors to work on their assignments on a regular basis but arrangements can be made for extended absences upon timely prior notice. Active participation in our regular editorial discussions is also expected. The Associate Editor would be appointed as a consultant and would receive compensation for their work.

The part-time Associate Editor is expected and encouraged to maintain their current position while contributing to PRD. Candidates must have an outstanding track record in both research and in refereeing, and have a broad knowledge of the field and current trends within it. They should uphold high standards for peer review, and be committed to maintaining and building an exceptional reputation for the journal. Prior editorial experience is not required. Researchers from anywhere in the world may apply.

Interested applicants should write to [email protected]  with a cover letter and a current CV. Applicants should also provide a statement explaining their interest in this position. The deadline to apply is June 30, 2024.
