Job Description
A 2-years (1+1) Postdoc position is currently available in the recently founded Laboratory of Exoplanets Imaging and Adaptive optics (LEIAO) of the University of Bern (Department of Space and Planetary Sciences), starting on or after September 1st, 2024.
The successful candidate will work on novel instrumentation techniques for exoplanets high-contrast imaging in the near-infrared, and in particular on the commissioning of the new PLACID instrument for the 4-m DAG telescope in Turkey. The research is part of the ERC “RACE-GO” project, funded by the Swiss Secretariat for Research and Innovation (SERI), due to the discontinued participation of Switzerland to the Horizon Europe program.
She/he will be fully integrated within the vibrant Bernese space and planetary sciences academic environment, and as full member of the Swiss research network on exoplanets (NCCR PlanetS, www.nccr-planets.ch).

Start date: September 1st, 2024 (can be slightly postponed upon request, within reason)
Duration: 2-years (1 year initially + 1 year extension available upon mutual agreement)
Salary: Starting at 90,000 CHF/year gross salary, commensurate with experience, with 5-week paid holidays per year. Childcare allowance is available.
Requirements: A PhD degree in Physics, Astrophysics or Engineering (with specialization in astronomical instrumentation or adaptive optics), within the last 2 years.
Prior experience in astronomical instrumentation, observational astronomy, Python programming or benchtop optics is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits
5-week paid holidays per year. Medical coverage for accidents during or outside work. Maternity leave and childcare allowance is available. Legal rules of the University and Canton of Bern are applicable.
Starting at 90,000 CHF/year gross salary, commensurate with experience.
