Job Description
The Chair of "Observational Cosmology" of Prof. Hendrik Hildebrandt has a vacancy for a full-time research assistant (39.83 hours/week) within the "NRW FAIR" network from August 1, 2024 (later start possible). The position is limited until July 31, 2026.
Your tasks:
- Application of AI methods / machine learning to analyze very large and/or high-dimensional data sets and simulations
- Active participation in the implementation of the Euclid and LSST projects
- Measurement and simulation of cosmic shear, galaxy-galaxy lensing and galaxy clustering with current imaging data sets
- Calibration of shear and redshift measurements
Your profile:
- Completed doctorate in the field of astronomy/astrophysics
- Experience with AI methods / machine learning
- Experience with optical and infrared sky surveys in extragalactic astronomy
- In-depth knowledge of the weak gravitational lensing effect
- Image processing of astronomical data from optical and infrared telescopes
- Multicolour photometry
- Photometric redshifts
- Calibration of redshift distributions for cosmic shear measurements
- Calibration of shear measurements
The employment is based on the collective agreement of the federal states (TV-L). The position is classified in pay group 13 of the TV-L.
