Postdoctoral position in multiwavelength astronomy
Job Summary
Gifu, Gifu
Japan
Job Description
We invite applicants for a 1.5-year postdoc position in the Faculty of Engineering at Gifu University in Japan to work within the Laboratory for Space Science, specifically the group led by Associate Prof. Hidetoshi Sano and Designated Assistant Prof. Kisetsu Tsuge. The group consists of about 20 people. The goal of the research is to understand the ISM evolution from the birth (star/molecular cloud formation) to endpoints of stars (SNe/SNR, and particle acceleration) by multi-wavelength astronomy. The main observational tools used will be radio (e.g., ALMA, SKA) and X-ray observations.
By comparing these data, we encourage candidates to contribute to analyses of the latest X-ray observational data, including eROSITA and XRISM, and participate in multi-wavelength studies. We are actively seeking candidates trained in observational astronomy. Experience in X-ray analysis is preferred. Our group has abundant radio data, including ALMA and SKA. The candidate is expected to enhance the latest X-ray data analysis, such as eROSITA and XRISM, and enhance multi-wavelength studies.
Gifu University is one of the core universities of Tokai National Higher Education and Research System. It offers a very active research environment of the highest international standards through collaboration with Nagoya University. The position is open to candidates from any country. The candidates should have obtained a PhD in astrophysics by the starting date. The prospective starting date is October 1, 2024, although this is negotiable. Changing the start date is possible, but the end date is fixed at March 31, 2026. Applications received by June 28th will receive full consideration, and later applications will be considered until the position is filled.
