Global Hands-On Universe Conference (GHOU 2016)

The conference will be focused on improving and propagating GTTP and GHOU community throughout the world. Significant efforts are underway in many nations, and experience has proven that by working together is beneficial. Advances in asteroid discoveries, activities, outcomes, assessments, workshops, and global impact and sustainability all have been realised since the last conference.

GHOU 2016 conference will create a platform for professional astronomers and educators to meet and share hands-on minds-on learning in the framework of Global Hands-on Universe network, bridging the cultural and political divides. Sessions will cover;
•    Robotic and remote telescopes for education
•    Challenges of astronomy education in developing countries
•    Social media for science education
•    Science and art collaborations for education
•    Science with ICT learning in the classroom
•    Assessment and evaluation of teaching and learning outcome
•    GHOU best practices and reports on astronomy for development
•    Impact of learning games in STEM education

Global Hands-On Universe (GHOU) is an educational program that enables students to investigate the Universe while applying tools and concepts from science, math, and technology. Global Hands-On Universe joins efforts from all around the world, allowing students and teachers to share their work and experiences.

Stord/Haugesund University College is a medium sized and modern state institution of higher education with approximately 3200 students and 300 employees. The institution was established August 1st, 1994 when four independent colleges in Stord and Haugesund merged.

Núcleo Interactivo de Astronomia (NUCLIO) is a nonprofit organisation created by professonal astronomers with the goal of promoting science outreach and education. NUCLIO coordinates the Galileo Teacher Training Program (GTTP), one of the largest teacher training movements in the world with participation of more than 100 countries. Since its establishement, the organisation has reached directly over 10 000 students and 2000 teachers. In Portugal NUCLIO is reponsible for iconic educational projects such as International Asteroid Search Campaign, Universe Awareness, Astronomers Without Borders and Dark Sky Rangers.
