Call for Applications: Far-Infrared Science Interest Group Leadership Council

Duncan Farrah University of Hawaii

The Far-Infrared Science Interest Group Leadership Council (FIRSIG-LC) invites applications to fill up to four council vacancies, to commence 1 September 2017. Membership terms are flexible: one, two, or three years depending on availability. Applications are due by 18 August 2017, 5:00 pm Pacific time.

The FIRSIG-LC works directly with the NASA Cosmic Origins Program Analysis Group (COPAG) to address the long-term objectives of the far-infrared astronomy community, and to represent the far-infrared community as a whole to NASA. Some of the FIRSIG-LC activities include:

  • Updating community-based roadmaps for technology development for missions of different scales.
  • Holding Splinter Sessions and Town Halls at AAS meetings.
  • Organizing semi-regular workshops and symposia on far-infrared science and technology development
  • Producing white papers on key technology needs and development priorities

The FIRSIG-LC activities are reported semi-annually to the COPAG Executive Committee and the Astrophysics Subcommittee. See the FIRSIG webpage for more information.

The FIRSIG-LC is interested in applications from individuals working in areas relevant to the mid/far-infrared astronomy community, including any area of science, and any instrument development domain. We are especially interested in applications from people who are dedicated to growing and developing community activities and representing the needs of the community to NASA.

Applications, consisting of a cover letter plus two-page CV, should be sent by email to the co-chairs of the FIRSIG-LC: Duncan Farrah ([email protected]) and JD Smith ([email protected]).
