AAS Agents Office Hours: Meet the Committee for Accessibility Rights and Equity (CARE)

Jason Wright Penn State

The AAS Agents often host "office hours" with Society committees and working groups to keep Agents informed about the work being done to advance our members and the astronomical sciences profession. All are welcome to join the office hours and listen in on the conversation.

AAS Agents Office Hours: Meet the Committee for Accessibility Rights and Equity (CARE)

Tuesday, 14 July: 2:00 – 3:00 pm ET (Register here)

Description

The AAS Working Group on Accessibility and Disability (WGAD) was formed in 2016 and, in April 2026, transitioned to the Committee for Accessibility Rights and Equity (CARE). CARE is tasked with promoting inclusion and equity of opportunity for disabled astronomers at all career stages and in all professional settings, from education and research to service and leadership. Since 2016, WGAD has worked closely with the AAS on priorities such as meeting accessibility, policy development, and resource creation that directly affect disabled astronomers.

In this presentation, CARE leadership will review WGAD’s accomplishments to date, describe the rationale and goals behind the transition to CARE, and discuss CARE’s priorities for this year, including our new “Engage the Community” event and plans for sustained community input and accountability.
