President's Statement on the Reported Dismissal of the National Science Board

The AAS is deeply concerned about the reported dismissal of the National Science Board (NSB). The NSB is a non-partisan group of scientists, engineers, and technologists from academia and industry whose collective expertise has strengthened the leadership of the National Science Foundation (NSF) since its formation. Their removal creates uncertainty about the future of basic research at NSF, which is one of the crown jewels of US science, and it will jeopardize US standing and leadership in fundamental science and technology innovation. The AAS is monitoring the situation and considering how we can most effectively voice these concerns to relevant stakeholders.
