The spending package also includes the FY2026 funding bills for Agriculture, Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and the Legislative Branch. The House, which last met for legislative business on 19 September, is expected to vote on the package to end the government shutdown today. Around the same time as Mr. Isaacman’s renomination, Project Athena, which outlines his vision for the future of NASA, was leaked to the press. You can read more about Mr. Isaacman’s plans for NASA Science in Lindsay McKenzie’s article at AIP. The National Science Board is meeting 12-13 November, with sessions open to the public.
The AAS urges members to take action in support of the US STEM workforce. Congress has the opportunity to advance two bipartisan bills:
- The Keep STEM Talent Act, which would create a direct path to permanent resident status for advanced STEM degree holders, and
- The Protect America’s Workforce Act, which would restore bargaining rights to federal workers.
Take a few minutes today to urge your members of Congress to support the Keep the STEM Talent Act and support the Protect America's Workforce Act.
AAS has also updated our action alerts urging Congress to support robust funding for astronomy and the prompt passage of FY2026 spending bills for our federal science agencies. Take a few minutes today to support the science that expands our understanding of the universe while driving innovation, education, and economic growth across the nation.
