Two AAS members are among this year's recipients of the prestigious National Medal of Science: Wendy L. Freedman (University of Chicago) and Keivan G. Stassun (Vanderbilt University).
Established in 1959 by the US Congress, the National Medal of Science is the highest recognition the nation can bestow on scientists and engineers. The presidential award is given to individuals deserving of special recognition by reason of their outstanding contributions to knowledge in the physical, biological, mathematical, engineering, or social and behavioral sciences, in service to our nation.
In early January 2025, then-President Biden announced the latest class of National Medal of Science laureates — 14 trailblazing scientists, including Freedman and Stassun. Videos of the laureates can be viewed here.
Congratulations to Wendy Freedman and Keivan Stassun!
