The Annual Review of Astronomy and Astrophysics, in publication since 1963, covers significant developments in the astronomical sciences, including on such topics as the Sun, our solar system and extrasolar planets, stars and star clusters, the interstellar medium, our galaxy and other galaxies, active galactic nuclei, cosmology, instrumentation and techniques, and the history of the development of new areas of research.

The 2020 edition, Vol. 58, is now available online and in print. The 16 reviews in this volume, edited by Ewine van Dishoeck and Robert C. Kennicutt, include the assembly of the first massive black holes, the dust attenuation law in galaxies, magnetohydrodynamic waves in the solar corona, and astrochemistry during the formation of stars. Volume 58 also features the autobiographical article "Jack of All" by James E. Gunn and a special contribution for educators: "Astronomers Engaging with the Education Ecosystem: A Best-Evidence Synthesis" by Stephen M. Pompea and Pedro Russo.
