Context:
The exploration of giant planet systems within our Solar System has entered an exciting new phase, leveraging the wealth of data from ongoing space missions like Juno and preparing for upcoming missions such as JUICE and Europa-Clipper. This position, funded by the Institut Origines, focuses on understanding the interactions between giant planets' atmospheres, magnetospheres, and moons, with an emphasis on astrobiology and the potential for life in these environments.
Job description:
We are seeking a highly motivated and talented postdoctoral researcher to join our planetary science research group at LAM. Responsibilities include:
- Analyzing and interpreting data from current missions (Juno) to study the magnetosphere-atmosphere coupling processes and moon-magnetosphere interactions at Jupiter, with an emphasis on astrobiological implications.
- Developing models and techniques to integrate findings from Juno in preparation for future missions (JUICE and Europa-Clipper).
- Collaborating with the team to submit proposals for new observations and contribute to the scientific preparation of upcoming missions.
- Publishing results in high-impact journals and presenting findings at international conferences.
Research environment:
The successful applicant will join a dynamic team at LAM, working under funding from the Institut Origines, which focuses on understanding planet formation and the emergence of life. The candidate will have access to advanced computational resources and interdisciplinary collaborations.
International collaborations:
Collaborate with NASA's Juno team, ESA's JUICE and Europa-Clipper teams, and leading institutes worldwide. National collaborations include LESIA, IRAP, IPAG, LAB, LATMOS, and LMD.
Qualifications:
Applicants must have a PhD in Astronomy, Astrophysics, Planetary Science, Astrobiology, Physics, or a related field. Special consideration will be given to those with experience in:
- Space mission data analysis and modeling
- Analysis of planetary atmosphere and magnetosphere data
- Observational data from space missions (e.g., Juno)
- A strong background in astrobiology or computational modeling
