Tenure-track positions in astrophysics and space science at Sun Yat-sen University

The University
Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) was founded in 1924 and currently hosts four campuses: three in the cosmopolitan city of Guangzhou, and one in Zhuhai, a beautiful seashore town next to Macau. SYSU has developed into a comprehensive university covering a wide range of disciplines including arts, science, and technology. At the heart of the Pearl River region, it aims to become a leading educational and academic institution in southern China.

The School
The School of Physics and Astronomy is situated in the Zhuhai campus. It is committed to cutting-edge research of the highest quality in astrophysics, cosmology, gravitation, quantum physics, space science, and theoretical physics. In particular, it plays the leading role in the commissioning of TianQin: a space-borne gravitational wave detector. It also aims to produce undergraduates and graduates with a strong foundation in physics and astrophysics.

The Astrophysics group currently has interests in cosmology, large-scale structures, gravitational wave astrophysics, high energy astrophysics, dark matter and antimatter; while applicants in all fields in astrophysics and cosmology are equally welcome.

The Space science group currently has interests in two directions: space microgravity physics and astroparticle physics. The microgravity physics group is devoted to the phenomena and applications of two-phase flows and heat transfer in microgravity, especially experiments on the two-phase platform in the Chinese Space Station; while the astroparticle physics group is dedicated to the searches of antimatters and the nature of dark matter, especially through experiments in space. Applicants in the related fields, including space technology that supports the experiments and TianQin, are warmly welcome.

The Opportunities
Faculty positions at all levels (i.e., professors, associate professors) are available. Salaries for outstanding candidates will be very competitive, while various salary packages and benefits are available. Applicants should have an excellent track record of publications in leading scientific journals. Demonstrated success in obtaining research grants are preferred but not necessary. Successful candidates will be expected to contribute to academic strategic planning, management and administration as appropriate, and support the development and delivery of undergraduate and graduate teaching.
