The research group of Dr. Mikako Matsuura at Cardiff University is seeking applications to fill the position of Postdoctoral Research Associate.
The research associate will study Supernova 1987A, specifically, chemistry of molecule and dust formation in supernovae, the dynamical motion of gas triggered by supernova explosion, dust destruction by supernova shocks, and potentially a neutron star left behind the supernova explosion. The appointed individual will join the international teams, investigating Supernova 1987A, using interferometric data from the Atacama Large Millimetre/submillimetre Array (ALMA), the Very Large Telescope and potentially the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST).
We are seeking a researcher with an excellent track record in one or more of the aforementioned fields.
The research associate will become a part of the active and diverse Cardiff Hub for Astrophysics Research and Technology (CHART) at Cardiff University (https://www.cardiff.ac.uk/physics-astronomy/research/research-groups/chart). Other members of the astronomy and instrumentation groups play leading roles in modelling and detecting gravitational waves, galaxy evolution, transient phenomena, the cosmic microwave background, exoplanets, star formation, and building the next generation ground and space based telescopes.
This position has an initial duration of three years. The funding is available from 1st April 2022, but the starting date is negotiable.
This position is full time (35 hours per week) and is fixed term for 3 years.
