Faculty position in the field of Astrophysics

The Institute of Physics and Astronomy (IFA, ifa) at Universidad de Valparaíso (Chile) invites applications for a faculty position in the field of Astrophysics. The requirements are a Ph.D. in Astronomy/Astrophysics or related fields, a proven research productivity and commitment to excellence in teaching.

IFA hosts an active and dynamic international community comprised of 20 Faculty (faculty) out of which 12 are Astrophysists with an equal gender balance, 23 graduate students, and 7 postdocs. Applicants working in all areas of stellar astrophysics are welcome to apply. Special consideration will be given to the field of binary stellar astrophysics. The successful candidate is expected to join the research and teaching activities at IFA and interact closely with students.

The IFA maintains a vibrant scientific atmosphere including a strong graduate program which leads our weekly seminars and colloquia. Our multicultural environment cultivates a rich academic and social experience and allows substantial networking opportunities and collaboration at many levels.
As a member of the faculty, the successful applicant will have access to 10 % of the Chilean telescope time at all international observatories in Chile (VLT, Gemini, Magellan, CTIO, SOAR, APEX, ALMA) and future observatories such as Rubin Observatory, CTA, ELT, Simons Observatory, and GMT. In addition, IFA hosts several high-performance computers for numerical simulations and high-volume data reduction. Teaching duties mainly focus on astrophysics at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Ideally, the candidates should be able to teach in Spanish within approximately a year.
