Job Description

The Observation Planning Branch (OPB) in the Science Operations and Engineering Division (SCOPE) at STScI is seeking an Associate Science Operations Analyst to support the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) and Hubble Space Telescope (HST) by contributing to the science, engineering and calibration programs for long-range planning and short-term scheduling on the observatories.

This position can support hybrid work. Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to our local market. (MD, DE, VA, PA, DC & WV).  U.S. Citizenship or permanent resident status is required for this role. 

Responsibilities:

The Associate Science Operations Analyst will support the development, implementation and flight preparation of the JWST and HST observing programs.

Assist JWST and HST users from acceptance notification through program execution.

Work with the international science community to help them develop their astronomical science observations.

Verify, implement and schedule assessments of assigned observing programs and ensure all operational databases accurately reflect program status.

Qualifications:

A Bachelors’ or Master’s degree in Astronomy, Physics or related field. Substitution of additional relevant education or experience may be considered.

Ability to formulate and resolve problems through research and application of standard scientific, mathematical and computational skills and techniques

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective internal and external working relationships

Excellent verbal, written and organizational skills. Attention to detail and thorough follow-through for all stakeholders
