Job Description
Established in 2020, the American Astronomical Society’s (AAS) Planetary Science Journal (PSJ) has grown to one of the most impactful journals focused on planetary science in the world. To continue that upward trajectory, the PSJ solicits applications to join the team of Scientific Editors (SEs). SE duties include:
- Shepherd articles submitted to PSJ and other AAS journals through the peer review process –
- Select reviewers for articles submitted to PSJ
- Process and forward reviewer reports to manuscript authors
- Respond to author inquiries in a timely manner
- Attend regular (~monthly) virtual PSJ SE meetings
- Attend the annual AAS Journals editors meeting
- Participate in PSJ events at scientific workshops and conferences
AAS SEs are expected to comply with the AAS Code of Ethics (https://aas.org/policies/ethics) and commit about 10% full-time equivalent effort to their work for the Journals. The PSJ SEs will report to the incoming PSJ Editor-in-Charge, Brian Jackson, and the AAS Editor-in-Chief, Ethan Vishniac. The term of a Science Editor is 3 years and is renewable.

Compensation and Benefits
Scientific Editors receive a grant of approximately $15,000 per annum for their services, plus travel support for the annual meeting.
