Job Description

The Department of Physics and Astronomy (www.phys.au.dk) invites applications for a Tenure Track position at the Assistant Professor level in stellar astrophysics

The position is open from 1 December 2016. The application deadline is 1 September 2016.

Stellar astrophysics at Aarhus University is part of the Stellar Astrophysics Centre (SAC) - a Centre of Excellence funded by the Danish National Research Foundation. The aim of SAC is to perform a coherent study of stars and planetary systems. The Department specifically wants to strengthen its activities within studies of theoretical stellar modelling combined with asteroseismology, with possible applications to other areas of astrophysics such as the study of the Milky Way Galaxy, using the broad range of observational research infrastructure available for accurate observations of stellar oscillations aiming at detecting oscillation frequencies. The Department of Physics and Astronomy plays a leading role in the use of data from the NASA Kepler and K2 missions and in the ground-based SONG network. We have access to telescopes through the Danish membership of European Southern Observatory (ESO) and the Nordic Optical Telescope (NOT). From 2017 we will also use data from NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS), and we plan a strong similar involvement in ESA’s PLATO mission with launch expected in 2024.

Applicants must have a strong record of original scientific research at a high international level. Abilities to attract external funding, to promote collaborative research, and to disseminate research to the public are additional favorable qualifications. Applicants must document their teaching experience in physics and astronomy. The department is actively committed to equal opportunity in employment and aims for a gender-neutral working environment.
