Job Description
The Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research (MPS) in Göttingen is one of the world's leading research institutions in the field of solar physics and planetary research with around 300 employees. The interdisciplinary research focus is the investigation of the development, diversity and dynamics of planets, moons, small bodies, the sun and solar-like stars. The MPS develops and operates scientific instruments for current and future space missions (e.g. ESA, NASA), and carries out cosmochemical laboratory investigations of meteorites as well as numerical modeling on state-of-the-art supercomputers.
The Planet Formation group led by Dr. Joanna Drążkowska invites applications for two postdoctoral positions:
Postdoctoral Position (f/m/d) in Solar System Formation
Postdoctoral Position (f/m/d) in Exoplanets Formation
Applicants should have or be close to obtaining PhD in astronomy, astrophysics, or related field. The starting date is flexible, preferably in the first half of 2025. The appointment for the Solar System formation position will be initially for three years with the possibility of an extension for one additional year, the appointment for the exoplanets formation position will be initially limited until 31.08.2027 due to formal reasons with possible extension depending on the performance and funding availability. Funding for publications and travel as well as access to computing resources are provided.
Compensation and Benefits
Remuneration will be on the German public sector scale (100% E 13 TVöD, the exact salary will depend on qualification and previous experience). Social security benefits are in accordance with German public service regulations. The contract covers 30 days of paid vacation plus 4 additional days off annually.
