Job Description
The Department of Physics at Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María (UTFSM), Chile, invites applications for a female faculty position at the Santiago (San Joaquin) Campus, in the fields of Astrophysics. The applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in Physics or Astrophysics, with proven research productivity and commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level.
At the Santiago Campus, the Astrophysics Group (Antonio Montero-Dorta, Rory Smith, Matías Montesinos) specializes in computational and theoretical astrophysics and cosmology, spanning from proto-planetary disks, to galaxy evolution and large-scale structure. Ideally, we are looking for a candidate who can diversify our research fields, while complementing the existing expertise. Special consideration will be given to the fields of planet formation/exoplanets, extragalactic astrophysics and/or observational cosmology/large-scale structure. The astrophysics groups at UTFSM also includes Yara Jaffé, Matthias Schreiber and Odette Toloza, at Casa Central campus in Valparaíso.
The successful candidate is expected to have a commitment to excellence in research and to join the undergraduate and graduate programs, interacting closely with students. The selected candidate is expected to teach in Spanish within a year. UTFSM is mainly focused on Science and Engineering with multidisciplinary activities, attracting some of the most brilliant students in these fields.
Astrophysics candidates will have access to the Chilean ten percent of observing time at the Telescopes located in our country, which include ALMA and the VLT, and also the ELT and GMT in the near future.
