Postdoctoral position on multiwavelength millisecond pulsar searches
Job Summary
Grenoble
France
Job Description
We are opening a 2-yr Postdoc position at IPAG, Grenoble, France, starting ideally in Fall 2025 (earlier/later date possible). Application selection will be carried out starting on March 10th, 2025, until the position is filled.
We expect the successful candidate to study the population of millisecond pulsars towards the inner regions of our Galaxy, and the multi-wavelength properties of these objects from radio to high-energy gamma rays. This work will include the analysis and interpretation of timing radio data.
We need a person with extensive know-how in time-domain radio astronomy and/or solid formation in compact object population synthesis codes. Knowledge of the Galactic disk and bulge modelling would be a plus. Applicants should have a proven track record in one or several of these expertises. They must hold a PhD at the start of the contract, and candidates with less than 2-yr experience will be prioritized.
This position is embedded within the strong collaboration between IPAG (Grenoble, France) and LAPTh (Annecy, France), aiming at studying the contribution of millisecond pulsars in a multi-messenger context. The successful candidate will be hosted by the SHERPAS team at IPAG, collaborating closely with the Astroparticle & Cosmology group of LAPTh. These teams have top records in the observations of compact objects, in theoretical and numerical modelling and in high-energy astrophysics, and have strong connections with radio experts in Australia, France, Germany and in the United States. Candidates will have access to state-of-the-art pulsar datasets (MeerKAT, Parkes, GBT) and collaboration opportunities in both radio and high-energy astronomy.
Ideally located on the Grenoble Alpes University campus, IPAG benefits from a stimulating professional environment with direct views on the mountains and plenty of public amenities.
Compensation and Benefits
The net salary is ~2.5k€/month depending on experience, and includes social insurance and up to ~35 days of vacation. The group has additional funding to cover equipment and travel expenses.
