Job Description

Two outstanding opportunities are on offer within the fast-growing team of radio astronomers and engineers within the University’s Curtin Institute of Radio Astronomy (CIRA).  This posiiton invites applicants for the role of Professor or Associate Professor in Radio Astronomy, This will involve leading original and innovative contributions to astronomy across CIRA’s core programs as well as providing leadership and mentoring for a large diverse group of more junior researchers.

CIRA undertakes all radio astronomy research at Curtin University and is a partner in a number of significant national and international collaborative ventures including the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR).  CIRA pursues research and development focused on the international Square Kilometre Array (SKA) radio-telescope project and its precursor telescopes. More specifically Curtin University directs, owns and operates the $50m Murchison Widefield Array (MWA) and is playing a leading role in SKA/LFAA pre-construction activities; building expertise for SKA Phase 1 construction, operations and science leadership.

This position is based at Curtin University’s Technology Park, Bentley.  CIRA currently comprises approximately 60 R&D staff and students, with numbers set to further increase over the next two years.

Curtin University invites applications for a tenured Professor or Associate Professor role. The focus will be to lead novel research complementary to CIRA’s core research programs and to exploit opportunities at the boundary of astronomy and engineering development.

A doctoral qualification with a strong track record of publications in radio astronomy complementary to CIRA’s core programs is essential. Demonstrated leadership of integrated research activity both within and across groups in academia and/or industry is paramount to your success.
