Job Description
The Trottier Institute for Research on Exoplanets (IREx) invites applications for the Trottier Postdoctoral Fellowship in astrophysics applied to the study of exoplanets, which enables forefront independent research related to exoplanets.
A PhD in physics, astronomy or related discipline is required at the time when the position starts. Preference will be given to applicants within 3 years of obtaining their Ph.D. Applicants with career interruptions due to parental, medical or family leaves, or other causes are invited to mention it in their cover letter if so desired. All areas of exoplanet research will be considered.
The position start date is between May and September 2025, and is for two years, renewable for a third year subject to performance and availability of funds. The position is held at the Université de Montréal. The researcher will work on-site at the MIL campus located at 1375 ave Thérère-Lavoie-Roux in Montreal, or using a combination of remote work and on-site work.
Applicants should submit a cover letter (optional, max 1 page), a CV, a list of publications, and a statement of research interests (max 2 pages). They should arrange to have three letters of reference sent to [email protected] by December 4th, 2024 for full consideration.
IREx consists of a growing team of about 60 people working on a variety of observational, theoretical and instrumental projects related to the study of exoplanets and other related fields of astrophysics. They work within several research institutions located in Quebec, Canada (Université de Montréal, McGill University, Bishop’s University, Montreal Planetarium of Space for Life, Université Laval). Our professors, researchers, and students are actively involved in large international projects related to the detection and characterisation of exoplanets, notably the James Webb Space Telescope, the SPIRou and NIRPS spectrographs, and have privileged access to time and data from these instruments.

Compensation and Benefits
This position includes a competitive salary of CAD 65,000, a relocation allowance of CAD 2,000, and a research fund of CAD 10,000 per year to support travel, publication fees, equipment, and related expenses. Additionally, the successful candidate will benefit from a range of social benefits and services, including health insurance provided through the Université de Montréal's postdoctoral researchers' union, SERUM POSTDOC. They are entitled to 23 vacation days and up to 8 sick days per year. They are also entitled to several holidays and social leaves, including parental leave.
