Job Description

As part of the ERC-funded “BHianca” project (PI: Eleonora Troja), up to two postdoctoral positions will be available in the Physics Department at the University of Rome - Tor Vergata. These positions will be for two years and extendable up to three years, depending on performance and the project needs. The successful candidates will benefit from interaction with an international group of researchers as well as a stimulating intellectual environment rich in colloquia, journal clubs, and workshops.

The researchers will lead and participate in observations across the electromagnetic spectrum of transient objects, including gamma-ray bursts, gravitational wave counterparts, and kilonovae. They will have access to data from a wide array of telescopes, including Chandra, XMM-Newton, Swift, HST, JWST, VLA, ATCA, uGMRT, and ESO/VLT.

We would like to invite expressions of interest by outstanding candidates with background in time-domain astronomy. Candidates with previous experience in optical/IR imaging and spectroscopy are especially encouraged, although the search is not restricted to these skills. Any outstanding candidate will receive full consideration.

The starting date can be as early as January 2025 and no later than Fall 2025. A candidate must have received their Ph.D. in astronomy, physics, or a related field prior to beginning the appointment.

Prospective applicants to the Marie Skłodowska-Curie (MSC) Postdoctoral Fellowship who are interested in working with us are encouraged to contact the PI to receive support during the application process.
