Job Description

The Department of Physics and Astronomy has started a new undergraduate astronomy degree program and invites applications from individuals who can contribute through their research, teaching, and service to the growth of the program.  The Assistant Teaching Professor of Physics and Astronomy is a one year contract faculty position with possibility of renewal beginning August 16, 2019.

 

Minimum qualifications:  A master of science in astronomy or astrophysics, or related field from an accredited college or university, and completed by date of employment.  One year teaching experience at the college level gained concurrently or at any time. 

 

Candidates must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

 

Preferred qualifications: Ph.D. in astronomy or astrophysics, or related field from an accredited institution, and completed by date of employment.  An active research program in observational astronomy involving undergraduate- and graduate-level students, and a strong commitment to the teaching and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students.  Effective communication skills in both the classroom and laboratory setting, with three or more years of successful post-secondary teaching experience.
