Opportunities at Donostia International Physics Center
Job Summary
San Sebastian
Spain
Job Description
The Cosmology and Astrophysics group at the Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC; http://dipc.ehu.es) in San Sebastian, Spain, invites applications for sponsorship to a number of opportunities in 2025 and 2026. We are seeking candidates in all areas of cosmology, galaxy formation, stellar populations, and/or theoretical astrophysics.
1) 2025 Ikerbasque Research Associates and Professorships (see https://calls.ikerbasque.net/). These are permanent positions and allow researchers to develop a long-term career in the Basque Country, Spain. Please see the website which discusses the distinction between Associates and Professorships. The deadline for internal application (see below) is June 30th, 2025.
2) 2026 Ikerbasque Fellowships - these are 5-year tenure-track positions funded by the Basque government to conduct independent research and start a new research line. The fellowship can turn into a permanent position, at the level of Research Associate Professor, after an evaluation process during the 4th year of the fellowship. See https://calls.ikerbasque.net/en/calls/research-fellows-2025-0 for a previous call. The deadline for internal applications is Sept. 30th, 2025.
3) European Research Council (ERC) Advanced, Consolidator, Starting, and Synergy Grants (see https://erc.europa.eu/apply-grant). These highly competitive grants provide funding for a research team for 5 years, and through a scheme of Ikerbasque lead to a permanent position. Internal applications are due at least one month before the ERC submission deadlines, but we encourage interested parties to contact us ASAP.
4) Visiting Positions - DIPC can provide funding to senior researchers for stays lasting between 1 and 3 months. There is no set deadline, please contact a staff member (see below) that most closely matches your research interests.
The DIPC is a research institute located in San Sebastian, Spain, whose mission is to perform and catalyse cutting-edge research in physics and related disciplines, as well as to convey scientific culture to society. Currently, DIPC has ~130 researchers, hosts ~200 visitors per year, and has organised more than 70 international conferences since 2014. DIPC is structured around 6 general areas: Condensed Materials Physics, Quantum Physics, Physics and Chemistry of Materials, Nanoscience, and, since 2018, Neutrino Physics and Astrophysics.
The Cosmology and Astrophysics group currently consists of three senior scientists (Raul Angulo, Nate Bastian and Silvia Bonoli), 6 postdocs, and 7 PhD students. The group's research focuses on cosmological numerical simulations, cosmic microwave background, theoretical modelling of galaxy formation and quasars, the exploitation of large extragalactic surveys, stellar clusters, and star formation. Applicants that complement and extend these research lines are particularly encouraged to apply.
