Description

The Department of Physics at the University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in Gravitational Wave Physics and Multimessenger Astrophysics. Well-qualified, tenured candidates at a higher rank will also be considered. The position is part of a cluster faculty hire between the Departments of Astronomy and Physics on exploring the Universe with Artificial Intelligence.

The Physics Department is home to the Weinberg Institute, which includes the Center for Gravitational Physics, the Texas Center for Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics, and the High Energy Theory Group. Researchers at the Weinberg Institute collaborate with the Department of Astronomy and the Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences and have access to cyberinfrastructure at the Texas Advanced Computing Center.

Qualifications

We seek a colleague who will contribute to advancing our understanding of the Cosmos through gravitational wave observations and numerical simulations using state-of-the-art techniques and methodologies related to artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data science.  Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. in Physics or a related discipline and must demonstrate creativity and the ability to establish an independent research program.
