Postdoctoral positions at Peng Cheng Laboratory, Shenzhen, China
Job Summary
Job Description
Peng Cheng Laboratory (PCL), a distinguished institute in Artificial Intelligence (AI) located in Shenzhen, China, invites applications to multiple postdoctoral fellowship positions at the interdisciplinary juncture of astrophysics, statistics, and machine learning.
We seek applications from accomplished computational, observational, and theoretical cosmologists and astrophysicists with a robust interest in machine learning and statistics.
The anticipated start date is flexible, ranging from the summer to the fall of 2024. Successful candidates will be appointed for an initial period of 2 years, with the prospect of an extension of 1~4 years contingent upon successful application of the Peng Cheng Fellowship (please inquire if interested).
Fellows will engage with a diverse array of cosmological and astrophysical research areas, encompassing:
1. Interfaces among cosmological simulation, inference, data, and machine learning (Yin Li, [email protected]).
2. Galaxy formation, structure formation, and star formation (Yang Wang, [email protected]).
3. Dark matter candidates, Lyman-alpha forest, 21 cm cosmology, and other probes of cosmic reionization including work as part of China's SKA preparation team -- Theory and numerical simulations of cosmic reionization and its repercussions (Paulo Montero-Camacho, [email protected]).
Furthermore, fellows are encouraged to collaborate with the AI and computer science experts at PCL and the IDEA Institute. Besides, fellows can participate in the scientific development of the 6.5 m Multiplexed Survey Telescope (MUST), the world’s pioneering Stage V spectroscopic telescope. Additionally, involvement in the design and analysis of China’s CSST (Chinese Survey Space Telescope) is encouraged.
Postdoctoral fellows will receive a competitive salary of 500,000 CNY, with the possibility for sizeable additional increments through local government stipends.
Shenzhen, often referred to as the “Silicon Valley” of China, is a technological and financial hub in the south of China (Guangdong Province). Its coastal setting boasts a favorable climate year-round with minimal air pollution. Proximity to Hong Kong and Macau provides opportunities for enriching weekend excursions.
Interested candidates are required to submit a curriculum vitae, publication list, and a concise research statement (maximum 3 pages excluding references). Additionally, a minimum of three letters of recommendation should be submitted to [email protected]. For full consideration, all application material must be received by Feb. 15, 2024.
