Job Description

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position that will be held jointly between the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) groups at The Center for Astrophysics | Harvard-Smithsonian (CfA) in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and the Institute of Astronomy of Andalucia (IAA) in Granada, Spain.  The EHT is an international project to study event horizon scale structures and physics around supermassive black holes using the technique of Very Long Baseline Interferometry. The next-generation EHT (ngEHT) project will enhance the EHT with the goal of producing high dynamic range, multi-color movies of black holes.

This position is to conduct a program of scientific research and scholarship that is related to EHT/ngEHT science, engineering, or array enhancement.  Highly motivated applicants with expertise in some subset of radio interferometry, software, astronomy data pipelines, digital signal processing, mm/submm instrumentation, and black hole theory/simulation/modeling, are encouraged to apply.  The successful candidate will have full access to proprietary EHT data and is expected to take a leading role in some aspect of the project.

The position comes with support for travel between IAA and CfA, and it is anticipated that the successful candidate will spend significant amounts of time at both locations.  Details of the division between both locations over the three-year term of the postdoc are negotiable.

Applicants must have a PhD in astronomy, physics, or a related field. Salary is competitive, with full benefits, including medical coverage, and support for travel, computing, and publishing expenses.  The deadline for applications and all supporting material is Jan 15, 2026. The postdoc can start as early as summer 2026.
